'CROSSOVER' Theme MP3 "Airwolf" Teaser

(2 November 2012)

The 'CROSSOVER' episodic score by Mark J.Cairns for the Airwolf Extended Themes soundtrack 2CD
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After a long delay on my Blogger updates (I put some teasers directly up onto Facebook in the interim though) on my part due to lots happening this Summer (see below), here's one of Udi Harpaz' themes from Airwolf with a little more orchestra mixed in now too.

Airwolf 3rd Season Theme - 'CROSSOVER' music
The late JOHN VAN DREELEN (Left) as 'Victor Janek'  and ISA ANDERSEN (aka ISA JANK in her native Germany) as 'Inge Janek' provide the focus for this Airwolf episode, with a poignant love theme in the middle of the track as laser weapons expert Inge decides whether to defect and seek asylum on US soil from the old Czechoslovakia under immense pressure from Archangel and another government agency. Victor is killed during the defection.

Airwolf 3rd Season Theme - 'CROSSOVER' music including this piece from Baja.
Baja, Mexico - with Hawke helping the Janeks defect
An interesting soundscape and mix of themes in this South American-sounding medley from "CROSSOVER"  and was the last episode composed by Udi Harpaz before Sylvester Levay came back again from the next episode.

The four-part medley starts with the atmospheric use of acoustic guitar, woodblock, cabasa and trumpets to set the "Mexican" feel to the episode as Hawke waits in his jeep at dawn for the Janeks to arrive by speedboat.

The middle two parts are from Inge's memories and grief for her dad as they're hiding in the mine entrance, with a poignant piano piece and then into full orchestra, which is then used as a love theme for the final epilogue scene at Santini Air (spot the HX1 helicopter in the background of this scene! In reality, Jetcopter's owner Peter McKernan, Snr's own personal ship). The final part is an extended melodic synth piece based on when Hawke tries to steal a truck to get Inge and himself over the border but is thwarted by two of Shrankov's goons in a jeep.

SO WHY THE LONG BREAK IN THE BLOG AND WHY'S IT ALL TAKING SO LONG? WE WANT IT NOW!!
Okay, lots happened over the Summer 2012 but the bottom line is it was decided between Frankie [at Einstein] and myself that I'd finish the final 6 mixes ('AIRWOLF II', 'CROSSOVER, 'Family Theme', 'THE HORN OF PLENTY, 'Eagle's Theme' and 'PROOF THOUGH THE NIGHT') myself due to their complexity with their orchestral instruments and the amount of studio time they'd take to complete to the standard of the other 14 synth-based tracks.

So I upgraded my own kit and bought Pro Tools 10 and everything else that was required and sat and learned it all myself from scratch after everything Frankie taught me at Einstein for the past year. Talk about being thrown in at the deep end, and I completed the hardest one first - 'AIRWOLF II' (will be up on a separate blog within the week). It just allows me ultimate control and I'm not under pressure with the studio clock ticking, so I can put in the late hours any night of the week (and without waiting for spare studio time at Einstein).

WHEN WILL THE ALBUM BE OUT NOW?
I've three more to Mix at this point - HORN, Eagles and PROOF. So, it'll not be this side of Christmas, before you ask. Yeah, I'm behind on my estimate because of all this now. But I want it to be right.

DID I HEAR TALK OF COSTS OVER ON THE 'AIRWOLF THEMES' CHAT FORUM?
Yes, the 2CD will **probably** be in and around GBP £30-ish per set (or that's what I'm aiming to keep it around) but final licensing costs from Universal (we've increased to 40+ tracks - YEAH, we've added more to Jan's CD1 so details on that upgrade soon - now up from 35+ which is horrendously high in music terms) and production costs will dictate the final figure. Quite a few folks have asked how much they should squirrel away from their Christmas budget. Well, that's my best estimate so far.
